Rockotitlan Chicago and Casa Aztlan present two very unique contemporary singers/songwriters from Mexico: Carlos Arellano and Alfonso Maya; who will be showcasing his third album TODO EL UNIVERSO (The Entire Universe). Alfonso Maya is an artist who has blended seamlessly genres such as funk, ranchero and rock to his already unique style. His songs speak in a very intimate and poetic way about retrospective and social reflexion. His lyrics are both, informative and critic of the social norm intertwined in love, life and death. For over 15 years he has toured Guatemala, Spain, Mexico and the US, including: Los Angeles, San Francisco, ...
Yes, that’s right. Chicago is sooo the city to be in right now, what with all the media-produced, government-pushed hype about a particular event taking place this weekend. We’ve reluctantly yet advantageously welcomed thousands of visitors in one huge, loud wave and we’re still cushioned in the barrow of excitement. Tonight, we’re celebrating the anticipation and we’ve picked two main events to head out to. Metro is hosting This Land Is Our Land! A Centennial Celebration of Woody Guthrie featuring Tom Morello (check out his impassioned Friday rally speech and performance video below) while Congress Theater welcomes Mexico City surf rock band, Lost Acapulco, and it includes lucha libre with El Hijo del Santo wrestling Blue Demon Jr. Fantastic!
NYC future rock outfit, OUTERNATIONAL is in town this weekend, headlining The Abbey Pub (3420 West Grace St.) TONIGHT and playing a series of tributes (Woody Guthrie with Tom Morello on Saturday @ Metro) and Anti-Nato Summit protests. The group, on the tail-end leg of their 2-Month ‘Todos Somos Ilegales: We Are Illegals‘ tour, which started in Brownsville, TX on April 4th and has weaved through the Border regions across America down to Tijuana thru to California and back through Texas, ends in New York City next week!

Outernational is a singular new up-and-coming band with a passionate undeniable live show, deep conceptual path-breaking albums and a message and sound unlike anything else right now.
Their path-paving new album ’TODOS SOMOS ILEGALES: WE ARE ALL ILLEGALS‘ - a bi-lingual cinema-in-sound concept album about the border, the USA and the system which criminalizes those who create the wealth it rests upon. With tightly-woven soundscapes referencing hard rock, hip hop, cumbia, corridos, gypsy punk, spaghetti westerns, chicha, vintage soul and even bachata, Outernational’s ‘TODOS SOMOS ILEGALES: WE ARE ALL ILLEGALS‘ is a singular album for 2012. Released as a name-your-price download, the record features collaborations with Tom Morello (Rage Against The Machine), Chad Smith (Red Hot Chili Peppers), Calle 13 (9-Time Latin Grammy Winner in 2011), Ceci Bastida (Tijuana No!) and Uproot Andy (Que Bajo?!)
